One of the best organised and most regulated countries in Europe, Norway first started regulating gambling in January 1927. Today, the country has seven official casinos in six cities where residents can try their luck, play their favourite games and – if they’re lucky enough – maybe even win some money.
However, visiting land-based casinos was not an option during the recent coronavirus outbreak, which created a significant problem for gamblers in this nation as well as many others. While the switch from brick-and-mortar to online casinos was compelled by the pandemic, it didn’t take long for gamblers to recognize the benefits of online gambling. This led many professionals and novice gamblers to look for online gambling platforms.
All that players need to know is which Norway-based online casinos are the best, and we can assist with that right now. Below are our top recommendations.
The first on our list is Casino Days, an online casino founded in 2020 that has a gambling license from Curacao that enables it to conduct business in a number of nations, including Norway. The platform supports 7 different currencies, including the NOK, and can be used in Norwegian as well as English.
While slots predominate in terms of gaming options, Casino Days provides more than 4,000 different game types, including table games, live games, and other options. You could play a variety of games, including video poker, roulette, craps, blackjack, poker, and baccarat. There is no mobile app for Casino Days, but you can access it on a mobile browser. There are over 30 deposit options available, so you are sure to find at least one that will meet your needs when it comes to payment methods. Additionally, its customer support is accessible 24/7 via email or live chat, so feel free to ask any questions.
Masked Singer Games
Then we have Masked Singer Games Casino, which is a popular casino inspired by the British TV show Masked Singer. The platform came into existence in 2020 and has been a huge success ever since. It currently offers over 2750 casino games, of which over 90 are live dealer games.
The third on our list is Slots Magic Casino. This is a platform from 2014, which holds a Malta Gaming Authority’s license, as well as Ontario’s Alcohol and Gaming Commission’s license. The platform has hundreds of games, with over 300 of them being slots alone. There are also 40 live dealer games, which are a great way to experience real casino vibes from the comfort of your home or on the go.
The minimum deposit amount at Slots Magic is also very low — around $10 — and the minimum withdrawal amount is also quite low in the online gambling industry at $20. It also supports around 9 different payment methods. A comprehensive and well-organized FAQ section, email and live chat options for contacting customer service representatives directly are all provided by the platform’s excellent customer support.
We’ve written everything we know about Slots Magic Casino in our Slots Magic review, so we recommend you read it to find out exactly what to expect.
The next item on the list is EU Casino. This platform, which has licenses from both the UK and Malta, offers more than 2,000 games from well-known software developers NetEnt and Microgaming. Although there are also many table and live games available, more than 1,900 of its games are slots. The platform is regularly audited by numerous independent auditors and is also very safe, transparent, and fair.
Numerous popular payment options, including PayPal, Trustly Paysafe Card, and others, are accepted. There are three ways to contact its customer service: email, phone call, and live chat. While chat and phone calls are not available around-the-clock, they do operate from 7 am to 11 pm, which covers most of the day. EU Casino, meanwhile, supports more than 10 languages, including Norwegian.
If you are interested in EU Casino, check out their website and find out all the details before you register.
Next up is the 2020 launch of the Turbonino Casino, which was founded two years prior. Since then, the platform has become extremely popular and is now accessible in many nations, including Norway. Not only does it support NOK, but it also supports the Norwegian language. The platform offers countless numbers of games from numerous developers. Both deposits and withdrawals can be made using more than 20 different methods.
It is accessible via mobile, and its customer support can be accessed via email or live chat. The website itself is easy to navigate and use, and if you choose to access it via cell phone, you will find that the mobile version of the platform looks exactly the same, making it very easy to navigate.
Turbonino Casino has a lot to offer, and that’s why we recommend going to their platform and exploring all the features and aspects of the website.
We have PlayOJO, a relatively new platform founded in 2017, in the sixth position. Five years into the business, the casino now has more than 500 games available that were created by some of the top casino software developers. Additionally, the UK, the Canadian province of Ontario, and Malta have granted it licenses.
The platform LuckyNiki, which was founded in 2017 and has licenses from both the UK Gambling Commission and the Malta Gaming Authority, is near the end of the list. Like the others on this list, it supports multiple currencies and is available in a variety of languages, including Norwegian.
The platform offers a wide variety of games, including slots, blackjack, baccarat, video poker, craps, roulette, and other games, thanks to its more than a dozen software developers. It’s also one of the few platforms that offers more deposit methods than withdrawal methods, even though it supports a lot of well-liked options for both. Its website has an anime theme and is very user-friendly. Customer support is offered by phone, live chat, email, and these three methods.
Lucky Niki is a perfect casino if you are a fan of anime-themed platforms, so if you are interested in this one, you can reach it by clicking here.
Last but not least, we have Ahti Games Casino, a casino that opened in 2018. Four licenses are currently held by this platform, one of which was given by the Swedish Gambling Authority. Similar to the others, it supports the Norwegian language and lets you deposit and use Norwegian kroner without first having to exchange them for dollars or euros.
In addition to having more than 1,200 games from numerous software providers and more than 20 deposit options, including Bitcoin, the platform provides email and live chat support. Once your funds have been received, you will have access to hundreds of slots, live games, table games, and other options while being confident that your information and money are secure due to robust encryption. It is even accessible through mobile devices, which is ideal for those who are constantly on the move.
You should definitely check out Ahti Games; if you’re interested, you can access its website here.
With the rocketing popularity of cryptocurrency in today’s world, we look at its demand in Scandinavia and what cryptos the region favours.
While other parts of the world would use cryptocurrency to pay for things like movie tickets, groceries, and sometimes even houses, online casinos are the main application for cryptocurrency in Scandinavia.
” One of the main reasons cryptos gained so much in popularity is the rise of online casinos, as well as restrictions on certain payment methods such as credit cards,” he said.
“People always find a way to work around governmental restrictions, and discreet and untraceable crypto transactions are perfect for such manoeuvres
Bitcoin and Ethereum are by far the two most popular and largest crypto-currencies in the world, and that status remains unchanged in the Nordic region.
Bitcoin continues to be the most popular cryptocurrency in Scandinavia, despite Oystein Olsen, the governor of Norges Bank in Oslo, saying that it is far too unreliable and volatile to be taken seriously as a replacement for established currencies.
Countries globally are beginning to adopt a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) – including Sweden – which aims to protect the Swedish krona against the rise of decentralised cryptocurrencies.
The e-krona will help Sweden establish a foothold in the burgeoning digital economy, where Bitcoin continues to thrive, as a parliamentary inquiry into the role of the government in the economy is scheduled to be finished in November 2022.
Bitcoin’s popularity in the region is also down to its mining capabilities due to cheap electricity deriving from renewable energy sources in Europe’s Nordic countries such as Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.
While excess energy will be hard to come by in 2022 in Iceland, the Scandinavian country is a big player in the crypto-currency world.
” There’s a saying that the only thing more interesting than a poker player is the person sitting next to them,” Matt Maranz said nearly a decade ago about his attitude entering the first World Series of Poker Main Event broadcast he’d be producing for ESPN. “It was a unique breed of person who decided to become a professional poker player. They came from all walks of life, they all were incredibly smart in unique ways, and they all had an interesting story to tell. Everyone had an interesting story how they got to that chair
Even the most anonymous of poker players do tend to have a compelling story behind their $10,000 investment in a WSOP Main Event. And it’s a good thing they do, because, unfortunately for the WSOP organizers in 2022, every seat at this year’s final table was filled with a previously anonymous player.
On Saturday, at the end of two weeks of play, Norway’s Espen Jorstad was crowned champion, putting his name in the history books, wrapping a gold bracelet around his wrist, and claiming the $10,000,000 top prize. And the 34-year-old had a need for the latter of those spoils far beyond what would have been the case a few months earlier.
Jorstad lost all of his cryptocurrency investments in May, which caused him to alter how he approaches the World Series.
No, Jorstad’s victory at the final table over eight opponents who were similarly unknown wasn’t as marketable for the WSOP as a well-known player going for the title or a woman making it to the final table for the first time in 27 years. But Jorstad had a fascinating personal story, just like the majority, if not all, of his fellow diners.
At the very least, the Main Event produced some of the craziest action ever seen by viewers of the livestreams on PokerGO.
Two pair does not beat a full house
The final hand of heads-up play between Jorstad and Australia’s Adrian Attenborough epitomized the “WTF?!” nature of so much of this year’s competition.
Having an abundance of chips compared to the size of the blinds (Attenborough had 58. With 71, Jorstad had him covered after 25 times the big blind. 75 bigs), both players made the 2-4-2 flop, with Jorstad adoring his Q-2 and Attenborough enjoying his J-4. Following a raising war, the pot increased from 12 million chips prior to the flop to 76 million. The 8 on the turn did not frighten Attenborough, who checked-called 62M more.
A queen on the river gave Jorstad a full house. Attenborough checked, Jorstad put him all-in, and rather than fold with more than 30 big blinds left to maneuver with, Attenborough went for the “hero call” that could only beat a bluff.
” F*ck! The Australian declared, “I’m out,” after realizing that Jorstad was not at all playing a bluff.
Attenborough still had a rather profitable fortnight, as did the rest of the top nine:
Give ’em a hand
The misguided call by Attenborough to clinch the title for Jorstad won’t necessarily even go down as one of the 10 most memorable hands of the event. Among the contenders for the top spot is this correct hero fold by David Diaz:
And perhaps even better was the game won by the eventual runner-up, Attenborough, who quickly learned that you live by a hero’s calling and die by a hero’s calling:

Online casinos in Norway
Legal status of digital casinos in Norway: legal since 2012, state monopoly
Since 2012, online casinos have been legal in Norway, but they are a state-run monopoly.
KongKasino is the only licensed online casino in Norway and is run by Norsk Tipping AS, the gambling monopoly in that country. However, many Norwegian players prefer to play at foreign online casinos because they offer better bonuses and more games (although there is a monthly cap of NOK 2200, or about €200)
The Norwegian market’s online offering of Norsk Tipping will now include some online casino games, the Ministry of Culture decided in 2012. This led to the creation of KongKasino, a page on Norsk Tipping’s website rather than a separate online casino, which offers some video slots, video poker, and casino games but no online poker.
Although, KongKasino received an overhaul in 2014, which enhanced its portfolio of games, and reviews have improved after that, but it’s still not as good as the big international platforms. And it still does not have online poker, much to chagrin of Norwegian poker players
According to various studies1, up to 10% of the population regularly uses unlicensed gambling platforms, and this number rises yearly.
Although it is not technically illegal to use anything other than the state-owned online platforms (such as the online lottery, Norsk Bingo, and KongKasino; details can be found in the “other forms of online gambling in Norway” section near the bottom), Norwegian players who play online on foreign gambling websites are not subject to prosecution.
Debit and credit card transactions to and from unlicensed online casinos are no longer permitted by Norwegian Banks.
Norwegian players can easily use their credit cards while playing online despite the Payment Act3, as most offshore casinos get around this by using various payment processors and offshore bank accounts.
The Payment Act’s official justification was that the government didn’t want its citizens to develop gambling addictions (comment: however, the true justification was to shield the Norwegian online gambling monopoly from competition).
However, Norwegian gamblers can easily get around these restrictions online by using so-called “digital wallets,” such as Neteller, Skrill, Paypal, or cryptocurrencies (and in most cases, they don’t even need to do that, as mentioned above, most offshore gambling websites managed to find a solution, allowing Norwegian gamblers to use credit cards while playing online).
Even today, Norwegians are free to gamble online, and the majority of them (especially online poker players) do so frequently. The Payment Act did not restrict the use of foreign gambling platforms.
Although Norway is not a full member of the EU, the gambling monopoly there violates EU laws. The nation is included in the EEA, or European Economic Area, though. As a result, other European nations frequently criticize the monopoly of online gambling, and the privatization is a recurrent, frequently politicized issue.
Below is a list of online casinos that accept Norwegian players.
Can visitors to Norway play online games?
Yes, both locals and tourists can freely play online.
Online casino licenses are not issued in Norway, according to the country’s licensing and regulatory body for the industry.

Taxation of winnings from online casinos in Norway for players:
The Taxation Act’s Sections 5 to 50(1) govern how gambling winnings are taxed.
Gambling winnings are not subject to tax, as long as they come from Norwegian companies. But everything else is taxable:
Furthermore, winnings from “comparable gambling activity” within the European Economic Area (such as state-run lotteries or sportsbooks in other European nations) are also exempt from taxes.
Remember that winnings from commercial gambling operators within the EEA (only state-owned gambling businesses, which essentially operate as non-profits, similar to the Norwegian gambling duopoly) are not comparable gambling activities.

Land-based casinos in Norway
Norwegian casinos are not permitted, with the exception of those on cruise ships. Slot machines are also prohibited, but bingo halls serve as a substitute.
The most important piece of gambling legislation in Norway is the Gambling Act.1 Under this act, land-based casinos are illegal in Norway.
Consequently, there are no actual, bona fide casinos in Norway.
Since 2007, slot halls have also been forbidden. However, there are locations that have gaming machines (so-called interactive video terminals; there are no live dealer tables, card games, electronic tables, or coin pushers; only these interactive video terminals with template-based interfaces).
Before 2007, businesses took advantage of a legal loophole and installed slot machines in a variety of locations, including grocery stores, cafeterias, and bars, which effectively served as slot halls. Slot machines were outright banned (along with video poker machines) in response to a sharp increase in gambling addiction, scandals, politicization, and media attention.
Norsk Tipping AS, a state-owned gambling company in Norway, is the exclusive provider of these interactive video terminals.
Norsk Tipping has hundreds of premises equipped with Multix and Belago terminals. The terminals are not traditional slot machines, but provide access to most games in the Norsk Tipping portfolio: video slots, lotteries, sports betting and instant games.
You need a special card to be able to play, you are over 18 years old, and there is also a limit of 2200 NOK, which is about 200 euros per player per month.
In addition to these locations with video terminals, the nation has more than 100 bingo halls. Additionally, each of these bingo halls has gaming machines; however, because they function as mini-casinos, they are not subject to the ban on slot machines.
With 44 locations, Bingo Norsk—which also runs bingo parlors in Finland—is likely the largest chain of bingo halls. Below is a list of every Bingo Norsk location:
List of all the Norsk Bingo halls – click to expand
Additionally, as long as the games don’t have a “professional character,” poker tournaments held in private homes are legal. Participants must be at least 18 years old, and the maximum bet per player per game is NOK 1000 (roughly € 100).
There is another exception to the casino ban in Norway, the many casinos aboard the bigger cruise ships. Practically all of the bigger Norwegian luxury cruise ships have casinos.
The top 5 of these gaming locations are listed below, along with videos of each gaming location.
Please note that they are not open to the public, only passengers over the age of 18 may enter. Cruise ship casinos are closed when the ship is in port.
Are local citizens allowed to visit casinos in Norway?
The Norwegian Gambling and Foundation Authority (Iotstift) is responsible for issuing casino licenses. If you want to obtain a license for a casino on a cruise ship in the Kingdom of Norway, you must get in touch with them. There is an English version of their website.
Due to their exclusive gambling licenses, the two state-owned businesses control the industry. Private commercial companies cannot obtain gambling licenses, with the exception of cruise ship operators.
If all of the proceeds (after salaries, expenses, and bonuses are deducted) go to charity, organizations with a humanitarian or socially beneficial purpose can obtain a license for gambling activities (typically bingo or raffles, though bingo halls can also have gaming machines).
There is no specific casino tax in Norway, which has brick and mortar casinos.
Taxation of casino winnings in Norway for the players:
The taxation of gambling winnings is set by Sections 5 to 50(1) of the Taxation Act.
As long as the gambling winnings come from Norwegian companies, casino winnings are not taxable. All other items, however, are taxable:

Bitcoin casinos Norway
Legal status: it is not regulated
Norway does not have specific regulations for bitcoin gambling.
However, bitcoin, litecoin and ethereum and other alternative digital currencies are not recognized as full-fledged currencies in Norway. Therefore, at present, none of Norsk Tipping’s digital sites and platforms, none of the bingo halls and none of the cruise ship casinos accept crypto-currencies.
Only on foreign bitcoin gambling sites (a list of which is provided below) are bets accepted in virtual currencies.
